Share prices turn higher mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia turned higher mid-morning, lifted by gains in selected key heavyweights, especially in banking counters and Genting.

As at 11am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) inched up 1.16 points to 1,620.73, after opening at 1,623.54.

Banking counters like Hong Leong Bank and CIMB, besides Genting were among the prime movers for the key index's performance, Hong Leong rose eight sen to RM14.42, CIMB added two sen to RM7.17 while Genting advanced seven sen to RM9.66 and Genting Malaysia earned four sen to RM3.74.

In the meantime, DanaInfra Nasional Bhd listed its RM300 million Exchange Traded Bonds and Sukuk or DanaInfra Retail Sukuk on the Loans and Bonds Board of Bursa Malaysia today.

The listing of DanaInfra's retail sukuk marked another milestone for the Special Funding Vehicle in its fund raising exercise for the Mass Rail Transit project, being the first issuer in the country to issue the Retail Sukuk listed on Bursa Malaysia.

The Finance Index rose 14.47 points to 14,922.26, the Industrial Index added 1.28 points to 2,781.28 and the Plantation Index earned 11.36 points to 7,864.90.

The FBM Emas Index advanced 14.439 points to 11,002.14, the FBMT100 increased 13.30 points to 10,862.03, and the FBM Mid 70 Index gained 39.99 points to 11,926.96 while the FBM Ace Index was 5.13 points higher at 4,000.22.

Gainers led losers 193 to 190 with 203 counters unchanged, 1,057 untraded and 17 others were suspended.

Volume stood at 176.149 million shares worth RM307.275 million.

Among actives, Patimas Computers fell half-a-sen to seven sen, China Automobile Parts added two sen to 47.5 sen while Asia Media was flat at 17.5 sen.

Meanwhile, SP Setia shares, which resumed trading at 10 am, gained five sen to RM3.16 at 11 am.

The counter was suspended since 2.30 pm yesterday to facilitate the book-building process for its share placement.

In a filing to Bursa Malaysia, the company said the gross proceeds to be raised from the placement of 320.7 million new shares at RM2.94 each was approximately RM942.86 million.

For heavyweights, Maybank and Axiata rose one sen each to RM8.98 and RM6.25, respectively, and Sime Darby shed one sen to RM9.26.
